Last week saw the milestone completion of the 25th episode of Lutherans ALIVE! Two additional shows are scheduled to be taped in May, which will complete the show's first season. Since the initial planning began one year ago, the on-air and behind-the-scenes production staff and program guests have formed a special bond that did not exist prior to the first production. In addition, the program has entertained, informed and touched many in the Sacramento viewing area. Requests for prayers and copies of devotions are regularly received. The Holy Spirit has truly been at work!

Host Dixie Schneider and co-host Gary Olson have done a phenomenal job with lively conversation and insightful questions. Along with the regular devotional leaders, Pr. Frank Espegren, Pr. Steve Krogh and Pr. Randy Pabst, nine additional Sacramento Conference pastors have also appeared on the show. Jim Jordan, who joined the show mid-season as the regular keyboardist, has also provided a special spark. And the show would not be what it is without the many Lutherans throughout the area who have shared their talents over the last few months.

Sacramento Lutheran Television, the producers of Lutherans ALIVE!, understand that many potential viewers are unable to receive the show, which is only aired on the Sacramento Comcast system (RCCTV, channel 19.) SLTV is looking into additional outlets, including other cable outlets, direct tape distribution and community presentations. SLTV will have a display and will show taped programs at the Sierra Pacific Synod Assembly on Friday, May 14.

Each episode of Lutherans ALIVE! costs approximately $250 to produce and air, and funding has come from several sponsor congregations and a few individuals. SLTV has just been informed that the Lutheran Development Society intends to award a grant of $2,500 to partially fund the next season. This grant will allow the production of the first nine shows of a second season, which will premier beginning September 11, 2004. Formal presentation of the grant check will occur in June at a ceremony at Advent Lutheran Church, Citrus Heights.

Additional funding is still required to complete a full season. Contributions are tax-deductible and may be sent to

All contributions of $100 or more are acknowledged on the SLTV web site and contributing congregations are also thanked regularly in the show's ending credits.

Lutherans ALIVE! is seen each Saturday at 8:00 PM on Sacramento Comcast channel 19 (RCCTV).
